The most basic version of poker involves players betting according to hand rank. If two or more players make the same bet, the highest rank ranked hand wins the pot.

Poker is usually played with a 52-card deck of cards. These can be standard or wild cards. Most games use a deck of cards that has four suits.

A three-card brag, also known as “the three-card poker”, was a popular gentleman’s game during the American Revolution. The three-card brag was a precursor to the modern poker game.

Some people believe that poker was introduced in Persia. However, the earliest known form of poker in Europe is believed to be a seventeenth-century French game called poque.
