Slot

What is a Slot? A slot is a rectangular area in ice hockey that extends to the blue line and is sometimes referred to as the fourth position of a flying display. The word slot derives from an Old English verb sleutana, which means “to cut or provide with a slot.” In 1888, the meaning of slot expanded to include “to drop a coin in”. A sense of slot as “to fit or take a position in” is from 1940. The most common meaning of the word slot is in sports. In ice hockey, the term refers to the space between the face-off circles, also called the scoring area.

A slot is the hollow on the base of the throat, usually above the breastbone. Its meaning is uncertain, but the word is thought to derive from Old French esclot. An Old Norse word slod is also related to the word slot. The word first appeared as “slot” in the 1520s, while its use in a slot machine is dated from 1888. As a result, a slot is a key part of the overall play.

A slot can be any of the three built-in types: amountOfMoney, duration, and number. This means that you can map any of these values to a specific slot. Custom slots are also possible. For instance, a location slot can be used to mark a location in an utterance. This feature allows you to create any number of custom slots that your bot can use to fulfill your requests. The name of the slot determines the type of processing that your bot will perform.
