In the 1970s, Las Vegas casinos marketed themselves to draw as many visitors as possible with travel packages and cheap buffets. The National Profile Study, conducted by Roper Reports GfK NOP, involved face-to-face interviews with 2,000 American adults, while the U.S. Gaming Panel involved mailing a questionnaire to over 100,000 adults, of which 57215 responded. The two surveys are similar in that they reveal that the typical casino gambler is a 46-year-old female from a middle-class household with above-average income. Most of these surveys also show that nearly half of casino patrons are older, with more available vacation time and spending money.
